For twenty years, I served as an Assistant Public Defender in Charlottesville, Virginia and Albemarle County. Every day, I stood beside people who were facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. That experience taught me the importance of listening carefully, explaining complicated issues in plain English, and advocating zealously for the people who place their trust in me.
After twenty years helping individuals navigate personal crises, I became increasingly interested in helping families avoid crises whenever possible. I dedicated myself to Estate Planning once I realized it allows families to make thoughtful decisions before an emergency forces them to scramble.
The same skills that served me as a public defender—listening carefully, explaining complicated issues in plain English, and advocating for my clients—continue to guide my work today.
I focus my practice on Special Needs Estate Planning, drawing on my personal experience as the parent of a child with disabilities and complex medical needs. Like many of my clients, I have spent long nights worrying about what the future might hold for someone I love. I understand the challenges and uncertainties faced by families that are similar to mine. Special Needs Parenthood is rarely an empowering endeavor. I am passionate about empowering other Special Needs Parents to secure a safe and stable future for their loved ones.
